The Office at Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Florida International University hosts Juneteenth events, dedicated to commemorating and celebrating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, sought to establish a cohesive and impactful visual identity for their annual Juneteenth festivities. The goal was to create a distinctive brand that honored the historical significance of the event while fostering a sense of community, unity, and empowerment.
The primary objective of this project was to develop a versatile and inclusive visual identity that could be applied across various mediums – from event banners to digital platforms – to promote Juneteenth celebrations. The visual identity needed to embody the themes of freedom, unity, and heritage while resonating with diverse audiences.
The central element of the visual identity was the creation of a distinctive logo. The chosen design featured a stylized representation of the Emancipation Proclamation, with dynamic and flowing lines symbolizing the journey from enslavement to freedom. The Pan-African color palette of red, black, and green added vibrancy and cultural resonance.
The visual identity was applied across various touchpoints, including event posters, social media graphics, merchandise, and digital invitations. Consistent use of the visual elements strengthened brand recognition and created a cohesive and inviting atmosphere for Juneteenth celebrations.
